Mission and Outreach

Bethzatha Fellowship with the Disabled

The Bethzatha Fellowship began in the Wollongong Diocese in 1981, the International year of the Disabled Person, in response to the expressed needs of disabled people and their parents and families.

Caritas Australia (Wollongong)

  • Caritas Australia is the Catholic agency for overseas aid and development. It helps people to help themselves, regardless of race, political beliefs, gender or religion and belongs to an international network of 154 organisations in 198 countries and territories.
  • It works with the local people of a particular country in all of its programs. Caritas calls these local agencies 'Partners'.

Catholic Charismatic Prayer Groups

These groups are characterised by expressive, joyful praise, an openness to the spiritual gifts including prophecy and healing, and an expectancy that God will speak and work in power within the meeting. Music is an important element, helping to lift the hearts of those present. There are also talks, testimonies and prayer, and prayer ministry is always available. There are groups throughout the diocese.

Catholic Enquiry Centre

  • CEC is the national faith promotion outreach of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, and operates under their general oversight.
    It is based in St Leonards, on Sydney's north shore. 

Catholic Mission (Wollongong)

Catholic Mission has two complimentary tasks - to inform the people of Australia about Mission in the world today and to raise money desperately needed for missionary work in materially poor countries.

Disciples of Jesus Covenant Community

An international community of people united in mutual commitment to each other and the Catholic way of life. Our membership comprises of families, single men and women, as well as priests and religious. We aim to renew and serve the Church by bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to others, by fostering a missionary outlook in its members and encouraging participation in local works of evangelisation, service and mercy.

Evangelise Australia

The National Office for Evangelisation is an agency of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference that has been established to serve the Church in Australia in matters of evangelisation, including overseeing the activities of the Catholic Enquiry Centre, an office that for almost half a century has outreached to persons enquiring about the Catholic faith.

Good News Community Macarthur

Prayer and leisure program for adults with a disability. First Saturday of the month (usually) at St John the Evangelist Parish Hall, Cordeaux Street, Campbelltown.

iStand nights

iSTAND Nights is a Catholic youth group that meets on Friday nights at St Columbkille's parish in Corrimal. A great place to meet other young people, relax, play games and have fun, but also to learn about God and what it means to be a Christian. You also get to meet the Youth Mission Team.

Macarthur Catholic Social Justice Network

The Macarthur Social Justice Network exists to promote social justice and peace, ecological concern and respect for life in society, in the light of the Gospel and the social teaching of the Church.

PALMS Australia

  • An international volunteer sending agency to reduce poverty through its skill exchange program.
  • Palms Australia started in Sydney in 1956 as the Paulian Association.

Ruah Young Adults Group

RUAH is a Catholic Charismatic young adults group held fortnightly at the Xavier Conference Centre (38 Harbour St, Wollongong). St Vincent de Paul Society

  • The mission of the Society is to deepen the Catholic faith of its members to go out into our nation to heighten the awareness of Jesus Christ. We do this by sharing ourselves - who we are and what we have - with the poor on a person to person basis.
  • The Society of St Vincent de Paul in Wollongong Diocese operates 24 centres of charity, 40 conferences based in parishes a number of school groups and a number of specialist welfare services. 

St Vincent de Paul Society Youth

Groups of young people across the diocese living the Society's mission through helping the disadvantaged, visiting prisoners and the elderly, helping with emergency visitation and deepening their spirituality and friendships.

The VENUE

  • The Venue Conference Centre is the perfect coastal location for your next conference or retreat.
  • Located adjacent to the grounds of Holy Spirit College, Bellambi, the Venue can accommodate 48 people, and is also available for day conferences and retreats.
  • The Venue is operated by YMT Australia.

Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity

Verbum Dei is dedicated to Prayer and the Ministry of the Word; offering retreats, spiritual guidance, day encounters with people of all ages, Schools of the Word and School of Apostles.

Vincentian Social Action Centre

St Vincent de Paul Society fundraising, developing volunteer network and advocacy on community issues.

Wollongong Flexible Learning Centre

Conducted under the auspices of the Trustees of the Christian Brothers. Alternate education project for secondary students over the age of 15. Support youth accommodation, medium to long term.

Youth Mission Team

  • The YMT is a ministry of young men and women who have deferred career or tertiary studies to dedicate 12 months to serving full-time as youth ministers in schools and parishes.
  • YMT's National Office and Training is based here in the Wollongong Diocese, situated adjacent to Holy Spirit College, Bellambi.
